Rules and policies regarding BASS endorsement of external meetings

The BASS is frequently asked to endorse educational activities or scientific meetings and we are required to maintain certain standards of performance and scientific quality in every initiative where the BASS actively appears.

Endorsement criteria

The proposed meeting or course should be able to stimulate an attendance of a reasonable size with regard to the specific characteristics of the initiative (congress, workshop, course, etc.), treating one specific topic, not in competition with the events organised by the BASS.

The proposed event should be CME accredited, either by the national authority or by a European accreditation body such as EBAP (www.ebap.org). A meeting might be accredited by the independent body EBAP but not endorsed by the BASS if it would conflict with some of our own activities.

The proposed meeting cannot be organized by commercial companies. It can be sponsored by third parties, but the initiative should ly with an organization that has no primary intention to make a profit. As such, the programme cannot be announced on the website of commercial organizations.

Procedure

The organiser must return the completed application form to the BASS Secretary: at least three months' advanced notice is advised. This application will be forwarded to the President of the BASS and the BASS Board members.

The President of the BASS:

  • will review the proposed programme with particular regard to the educational objectives and to the scientific quality asking, if needed, the advice of experts in the specific area of interest;
  • will assess the interest of the BASS in endorsing the educational or scientific event;
  • will present his/her conclusion with the reasons supporting the advice to the BASS Board for final approval.

Endorsement benefits

The BASS endorsement package includes free advertising on the BASS web-site under "BASS endorsed meetings";

Please note that the BASS endorsement does not involve any financial support by the BASS.

In exchange the Organiser of the event should:

  • Mention "Endorsed by the BASS" with the BASS logo be printed on the programmes and any other printed or electronic document. A copy of each printed document should be sent to the BASS secretariat
  • Submit the proofs of the Final Programme to the BASS Secretary
  • Invite a representative of the BASS Board to refer to the board about the event.
  • Offer support to promote the BASS activities at the event such as insert in the congress bag, and announcement on your website.
